Noting that some 245 people have been killed by terrorists in France since 2015, Hegseth remarked, “I hate to put it this way, but France has a slow-motion 9/11 happening in their borders.”
Hegseth recalled the January 2015 attack on Charlie Hebdo, the 2015 train attack that was thwarted by Americans, the Bataclan attack, and the Nice truck attack, calling the terrorist problem a “demographic invasion.”

French President Emmanuel Macron responded to the attack with a tweet that read, “France once again paid the price of blood but did not give an inch to the enemies of Freedom.”
