Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to former President Obama’s call on him to take up the torch of progressive values in leadership in an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd Sunday.
A recent book titled “The World As It Is” by former advisor to the Obama administration Ben Rhodes revealed that Obama told the Canadian prime minister his “voice is going to be needed more” and that he is “going to have to speak out when certain values are threatened.”
“That need to be firm about projecting our values and defending not just our citizens but citizens around the world in positive ways is what I consider the responsibility we have as Canadians and what I’ll do as leader,” Trudeau responded.
Trudeau then elaborated on Canada’s world presence, stating that it was “deeply reassuring” and that Canadians, whether they be present militarily or bureaucratically in foreign wars or in international institutions, “step up when we need to, we’re going to be polite, but we’re also not going to be pushed around.”
