Trump Offers Condolences to Families of Anthony Bourdain, Kate Spade

President Donald Trump joined a chorus of celebrities Friday morning to express his shock and sadness at the deaths of TV star and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain and fashion icon Kate Spade.


“I think it’s very sad. I want to extend to his family my heartfelt condolences,” Trump said of Bourdain’s death, which occurred in a Strasbourg, France hotel room. “That was very shocking when I woke up [Friday] morning: ‘Anthony Bourdain is dead.’


“I enjoyed his show, he was quite a character, I will say. So I just want to extend my condolences. And also, to the family of Kate Spade.”


Spade was found dead at her New York City apartment Tuesday morning. Authorities determined that Spade hanged herself. 


CNN reported Friday morning that Bourdain committed suicide as well.


A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report eleased Thursday showed that suicide rates increased in every state but one, Nevada, from 1999-2016.
