A pro-life life group has persistently sought to speak with California State University at Long Beach about its stance on an abortion bill that may soon take effect at all California public universities, but the university has refused to respond.

Students for Life of America, a student group that seeks to abolish abortion on college campuses, launched #RUSerious to protest a proposal to give out free RU-486 abortion drugs in campus health centers across California.

The group reached out to the Cal-State chancellor’s office on a myriad of occasions to speak to the university about the proposal, but those requests have been ignored, according to Students for Life of America Pacific Southwest Regional Coordinator Camille Rodriguez.

“As a resident and taxpayer in California, it is incredibly offensive to democratic ideals that myself and my students, many of whom are also residents and taxpayers of California, cannot have a discussion with the school system that is supposed to serve us,” Rodriguez said, according to a Tuesday press release. (RELATED: California Students Try To ‘Normalize’ Abortion Pills On Campus)

Rodriguez posits that she and her students have requested many meetings since March, but have been met with silence. She maintains that she and her students called five separate times in March and April and left messages asking to discuss Senate Bill 320 and that none of those calls have been returned.

Cal-State students, as well as a number of students from other California universities, gathered together on May 22 to demand the State Assembly accept and pass SB320. The California Senate approved the bill on Jan. 29 requiring the state’s public universities and colleges to offer abortion drugs at their health centers. (RELATED: California Students Come Out In Droves To Demand Free Abortion On Campus)

If signed into law, the bill will take effect in 2020.

California State University never responded to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
