Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini claimed in a tweet Friday the former prime minister let the country get overrun by thousands of refugees.
Salvini, from the nationalistic “Lega Nord” party, called out former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi for his refugee policy, he wrote in a tweet. Salvini was responding to Renzi declaring that he was “ashamed” of the interior minister’s handling of migrants, Huffington Post reported. “Renzi said that he is ASHAMED of my words. I believe that he should be ashamed for allowing the country to be overrun by hundreds of thousands of alleged refugees. A mistake? I assure you that I will put out a remedy to the disasters of the (Democrat Party) PD,” Salvini wrote. The politician has also vowed to crack down on illegal immigrants, going as far as to tell migrants to “pack your bags” during a rally in June.
