Apple Inc. said the Maps application — across its devices — was having problems after people reported being unable to navigate in real time or search for locations.
The app has been down for about three hours, according to a notice on Apple’s website Friday. The company didn’t say when the issues would be resolved. While Apple Maps was riddled with bugs and poor data upon its launch in 2012, the service’s search and navigation features have rarely stopped working. Maps is a key feature for mobile devices like smartphones, used for navigating in the car, by foot, or by public transportation.
In a test, neither search nor navigation worked on the Maps app on an iPhone and on a Mac. The company’s website says it’s “investigating the issue.” An Apple spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for more information.
