Mika Brzezinski on Thursday urged Ivanka Trump to fly to the U.S.-Mexico border, saying President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter should witness firsthand how the separation of children from their parents has affected immigrant families.
“What can you do? You can go to the border, as the president’s counselor on women and families and children, and you can stand there and wait until something is done, step up,” said Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.“
“It’s not about you, and it’s not about your dad. It’s about the country. Do what’s right.”
Mika’s advice came after Associated Press reporter Jonathan Lemire said the “silence” of Ivanka, a mother of three, has been “striking” in the last week as the uproar grew over her father’s zero-tolerance immigration policy.
Added “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough, “There’s been an awful lot of silence in times of moral crisis” on the part of Ivanka.
On Wednesday, the president signed an executive order to stop separating illegal immigrant children from their parents, but insisted “the border is going to be just as tough as it has been.” He inked the directive following a growing outcry from both Republicans and Democrats over the practice.
