Facebook Inc. said Thursday that it is taking “significant steps” to bring more transparency to ads and Pages on the social media site, which should increase accountability for advertisers and prevent abuse. Users will now be able to see ads running across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and its partner network, even if those ads aren’t shown to the user. In addition, users will be able to see any recent name changes and the date the Page was created. “By shining a bright light on all ads, as well as the Pages that run them, we’ll make it easier to root out abuse–helping to ensure that bad actors are held accountable for the ads they run,” Facebook said in a statement. The stock slipped 0.2% in afternoon trade. It has rallied 28% over the past three months, while the S&P 500 has gained 4%.
