President Donald Trump on Wednesday called in to “The Rush Limbaugh Show“ to congratulate the conservative radio host on the 30th anniversary of his radio show while taking another shot at Sen. John McCain.
“You’re a very special man, Rush, and you have people that love you. I’m one of them. But you’re a very, very special guy. What you do for this country, people have no idea how important your voice is,” Trump told Rush.
“So I just wanted to personally make this one and I said, ‘I’ll even dial the number myself if I have to.’ But I just want to congratulate you. Thirty years in that tough business is incredible — and you’re stronger now than ever before,” Trump said.
The two talked a little shop, touching on the president’s rally Tuesday night in Tampa, Trump’s latest threat to shut down the government over immigration — “I actually think it would be positive” — and Obamacare.
Trump called out McCain – albeit not by name – for sinking Republicans’ chance to repeal Obamacare last year. Trump said it was a “horrible thing” that the cancer-stricken McCain “did to our country.”
“We had Obamacare repealed and replaced, and a man — I won’t mention his name,” Trump told Rush.
“But a man at 2 o’clock in the morning went thumbs down, and he campaigned for years on repeal and replace. We had the chance. Nobody even spoke to him about it, because it was something that was unthinkable what he did,” Trump said.
“But that was very disappointing to me that night — and he did it because of me, probably. But that was very disappointing. That was a horrible thing he did to our country,” Trump said.
