“Lou Dobbs Tonight” Continues Reign as Number One Show in Business News while “Varney & Co” Continues as Top Market Program on Television

FOX Business Network (FBN) continued its winning streak over CNBC, sweeping the network across Business Day and Market Hour dayparts during the week of July 30th – August 3rd, according to Nielsen Media Research. As markets reacted to the release of the July jobs report, FBN’s Business Day (9:30AM – 5PM/ET) coverage saw a 17 percent advantage over CNBC with 201,000 viewers compared to 172,000 for the week, and a 30 percent advantage in the 25-54 demo with 26,000 viewers compared to CNBC’s 20,000 for the week.
FBN also overtook CNBC in the crucial market hour daypart (9:30AM-4PM/ET), delivering 205,000 total viewers compared to CNBC’s 173,000 this week, as well as 28,000 viewers in the demo compared to CNBC’s 19,000.
Marking 63 consecutive weeks as the most-watched market-open program on television, “Varney & Co” (weekdays, 9AM-12PM/ET) trounced its CNBC competition with 253,000 total viewers compared to 168,000, and delivered 35,000 in the demo compared to CNBC’s 19,000. Additionally, both Countdown to the Closing Bell with Liz Claman (3PM/ET) and The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan (2PM/ET) dominated their timeslots in total viewers and the A25-54 demo for the week.
Lou Dobbs’ eponymous program Lou Dobbs Tonight (7PM/ET) was once again the number one news program in all of business news, averaging 311,000 in total viewers and 35,000 in the 25-54 demo. Along with Lou Dobbs Tonight, Varney & Co (9AM-12PM/ET), and Countdown to the Closing Bell with Liz Claman (3PM/ET) also ranked in the top three most-watched business programs for the week.
Additionally, Mornings with Maria (6-9AM/ET) anchored by Maria Bartiromo bested CNBC’s Squawk Box in total viewers during the influential pre-market hours with 106,000 viewers compared to CNBC’s 99,000. FBN’s post-market programs The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (5PM/ET) and Making Money with Charles Payne (6PM/ET) also scored their 13th and sixth weekly wins over CNBC, respectively.
