The number of Americans who have dumped traditional pay-TV plans is expected to climb to 33 million this year from 24.9 million last year. By the end of 2022, more than 55 million Americans are expected to have ditched cable TV plans. The rise of so-called cord-cutting is one reason the Walt Disney Company (DIS) is on track to launch its own direct-to-consumer online video service.
