House Judiciary Committee Readies Dossier-Related Subpoenas

The House Judiciary Committee is reportedly preparing to issue subpoenas as part of an inquiry into the government’s handling of the Steele dossier.

Virginia Republican Rep. Bob Goodlatte is planning to subpoena Department of Justice official Bruce Ohr, his wife Nellie Ohr and the co-founder of Fusion GPS, Glenn Simpson, according to The Hill.

Goodlatte also plans to subpoena former FBI general counsel Jim Baker, FBI attorney Sally Moyer, special agent Jonathan Moffa and George Toscas, a DOJ attorney.

Ohr has been in the limelight recently amid revelations about emails and text messages he exchanged with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the dossier.

Simpson hired Steele as part of an anti-Trump project financed by the Clinton campaign and DNC. Nellie Ohr worked for Simpson.

Emails the DOJ gave to Congress show that Ohr and Steele were in frequent contact while Steele was working on the dossier. Steele also lobbied Ohr on behalf of Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Steele pressed Ohr to keep tabs on the progress of Deripaska’s negotiations with the U.S. government over his visa, which had been blocked by the Department of State. (RELATED: Emails Show Christopher Steele Lobbied Bruce Ohr On Behalf Of Putin-Linked Oligarch)

Republican lawmakers have long sought an interview with Ohr to discuss his work with Steele and Simpson. Ohr was demoted from his position as associate deputy attorney general in December. The DOJ has still not said why Ohr was demoted.
