Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., said if President Donald Trump keeps the pressure on, the U.S. will win the trade war with China.
His comments came during an interview on Friday with Maria Bartiromo on the Fox Business Network.
“The president has finally said: ‘Enough is enough.’ They (the Chinese) have undermined many of the industries in this country. I come from Missouri and I can sit here and give you a whole handful of folks and industries that they’ve undermined in my own state.
“It’s very important we push back and level the playing field – and that’s what the president is trying to do. I don’t think China can hang on until next spring — especially if we negotiate with the EU (European Union) and you put the EU and our economies together. We can pretty well put the squeeze on China.
“China’s economy as a whole is weak and getting weaker. They have a real problem with their economy. If the president, keeps the pressure on, he will win this trade war.”
Earlier this week, Chinese state media blasted Trump’s trade policies, claiming the president’s actions imperiled the credibility of the U.S.
