Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y. is convinced Republicans can retain control of the House and even pick a seat or two in the November midterms.
King made his comments on a Friday interview on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports.”
“I think we have to assume, as Republicans, that we have tough fights ahead of us.,” he said. “In my case, I’m proud of my record. If we run on the record and don’t get scared, we can hold the House and maybe even pick up a seat or two.
“I’m not kidding myself here, these are going to be tough races. We have to fight hard. If we fight hard and don’t panic, there’s no reason why we can’t keep the House.”
He said candidates have to run on their record. And he added: “If the record is good, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be reelected.”
Republican strategist Karl Rove also has said the GOP has a “fighting chance” to keep control of the House.
“The bottom line: While Republicans will certainly lose House seats in November, they have a fighting chance to keep their majority,” he said in a column for The Wall Street Journal.
