Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel says Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach did the right thing in removing himself from further counting of votes while his Republican primary battle with Gov. Jeff Colyer is decided.
McDaniel made her comments on Fox News’ “Outnumbered Overtime” on Friday.
“I think he did the right recusing himself,” she said. “It gives assurances to the Kansas voters that everything is on the up and up. And they want to make sure that everything is done properly. And I know Kris Kobach wants to make sure the voters feel good about the process.
“He did the right thing. It’ll come down to the provisional and absentee ballots and the voters are going to make themselves clear. We’ll see what the final vote tally is, as you said, it is razor thin.”
She predicted the winner of the race will be the next governor a Kansas.
“We will support them,” McDaniel said. “They are both candidates who are going to support the president.”
Colyer had publicly accused Kobach, the state’s top elections officials, of giving county election officials information about the handling of yet-uncounted ballots “inconsistent with Kansas law.”
