Giuliani: Trump 'Never' Told Comey to 'Go Easy' on Michael Flynn

President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Sunday flatly denied former FBI Director James Comey’s assertion that Trump ever urged him to “go easy” in a probe of former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s Russian contacts.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Giuliani said investigators for special counsel Robert Mueller “should know by now who they believe.”

“We’ll tell them the president’s answers to everything — they already know them,” he said, adding: “The president said he never told Comey he should go easy on Flynn. Comey says the president did, put it in his memo… they should know by now who they believe.”

“There was no conversation about Michael Flynn,” Giuliani added. “The president didn’t find out that Comey believed there was until about I think it was February when it supposedly took place. [Comey’s] memo came out in May. And in between, Comey testified under oath, in no way he had been obstructed at any time. Then all of a sudden in May he says he felt obstructed. He felt pressured by that comment, ‘you should go easy on Flynn. ‘So we maintain the president didn’t say that.”

“That is what he will testify to if he’s asked that question,” Giuliani declared. “They already know that. Why are they asking us for him to repeat what they already know under oath.”

He also traded barbs with CNN host Jake Tapper for referring to Trump’s bankruptcy history as a businessman after asking Giuliani about Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenetti telling Democrats at their Wing Ding fundraiser in Iowa that he’s exploring a presidential run.

“Wing Ding dinner. That sounds like the right place for him to speak,” Giuliani responded, adding: “He has every right to do what he wants. I think I would settle the bankruptcy situation where he owes 10 million bucks first, but hey, it’s up to him.”

“There’s a history of people with bankruptcies in their past running for president,” Tapper shot back.

“Cheap shot. Cheap shot,” Giuliani replied.
