Lara Trump on Thursday tore into New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his “sad” and “crazy” proclamation America “was never that great.”
And Lara, the daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, added she believes Cuomo might be speaking for the entire Democratic Party with what she called his “pessimistic attitude.”
“It it’s really sad,” Lara, who is married to Trump’s son Eric, told Dr. Gina Loudon on Newsmax TV‘s “America Talks Live.” “It’s crazy that the governor of New York would make a statement like this, and as the president pointed out, rightly so, in the highest-taxed state in the country.
“What I think we’ve seen is that the Democrats really are going so far to the left. Clearly, it is a little bit out of touch with the majority of Americans.”

Cuomo came under heavy fire Wednesday for declaring America “was never that great” during a stinging rebuke of President Donald Trump. During an impassioned speech criticizing Trump’s comments and policies toward women, Cuomo argued the president’s slogan, “Make America Great Again,” is aimed at moving the nation backward on issues of equal rights.
“The simple point is all this comes down to this: We’re not going to make America great again,” the governor said. “It was never that great. We have not reached greatness. We will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged. We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women — 51 percent of our population — is gone.”
Those words infuriated Lara, who referenced the nation’s mighty response to Germany and Japan during World War II as high points in its glory.
“This country is great every single day this country gives people the opportunity to achieve the American dream,” she said. “Why Andrew Cuomo are so many people trying to come to the United States of America if we are not great?
“It’s really sad that he said this. I think it was offensive on so many levels to so many people, but it really shows his pessimistic attitude toward this entire country and maybe this is the truth behind the Democrats.
“Maybe that’s how they feel about our country, and I sure hope people are paying attention to this when they go to vote in November and they remember that the Democrats do not think this is a great country.”
