Trump: Google Showed Bias Promoting Obama Speeches

President Donald Trump on Wednesday continued his criticism of tech giant Google for its alleged anti-conservative bias, tweeting a video that appeared to show how the company promoted former President Barack Obama’s State of the Union speeches on its home page during his presidency but not his in 2017 and 2018.

His tweet, which reads #stopthebias, includes a video that says “For years, Google promoted President Obama’s State of the Union on its homepage. When President Trump took office, Google stopped,” and shows Google’s home page the night of each State of the Union back to 2012.

Google said Trump’s speech in 2017 was not technically a State of the Union speech, and Obama’s inaugural speech in 2009 was not promoted.

“We have historically not promoted the first address to Congress by a new president, which is technically not a State of the Union address,” a spokesperson told The Hill. “As a result, we didn’t include a promotion on for this address in either 2009 or 2017.”

Trump over the last week has accused Google of rigging news story results to favor negative coverage about him from left-leaning news outlets.

“Google has really taken advantage of a lot of people, and I think that’s a very serious thing and it’s a very serious charge,” Trump told reporters after a meeting with the president of FIFA, following his initial tweets.

Google is the top site on the web, according to Alexa, an Amazon company.
