Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Sunday said Republicans will be successful in the next two months if President Donald Trump could be “as disciplined in his discourse and speeches” as he was prior to the presidential election.
“My prayer is that our President can be as disciplined in his discourse and speeches like last two [weeks before] his election,” Grassley wrote on Twitter.
“Then we will be successful in next two months like he was successful,” he added.
Republicans are hoping to avoid a blue wave in the upcomind midterm elections, but many polling sites are predicting Democrats will regain control of the House of Representatives for the first time since 2006. Democrats need to flip 24 GOP seats while keeping its 194 seats.
Grassley’s tweet seemed impromptu, but the senator has criticized the president over the last few weeks on several issues, including news that White House counsel Don McGahn will be leaving in the fall.
