Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Monday slammed President Donald Trump and his Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh a day before Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings start, telling a crowd of labor organizers the president is a “pathological liar” who works “night and day on behalf of his fellow billionaires,” Politico reports.
Trump is trying to divide Americans for “cheap political reasons,” Sanders said at an AFL-CIO Labor Day breakfast in New Hampshire.
“And most reprehensible, we have a president who is not doing what almost every president in American history has done — when you make it into the Oval Office, you understand you’ve got a sacred responsibility to bring the American people together,” he added.
Many Democrats oppose Kavanaugh, who they say could pose a threat to Roe v. Wade and the landmark Affordable Care Act. Sanders on Monday again expressed his concerns about the federal judge, saying he had no doubt Kavanaugh would be “an anti-worker justice . . . he will also be an anti-woman justice. We should call him out.”
Sanders’ comments on Trump come a day after AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka said the president had done more to harm workers than help them.
“He hasn’t come up with an infrastructure program that could put a lot of us back to work,” Trumka told “Fox News Sunday.”
“He overturned a regulation that would deny over 5 million overtime that they would’ve had. He overturned some health and safety regulations that will hurt us on the job.”
