(Bloomberg) — Alphabet Inc.’s Google is updating its Android software, which powers most of the world’s smartphones, to make it easier for consumers to use other app stores. The move comes after Epic Games Inc. pulled its popular Fortnite game from Google and Apple Inc.’s app stores to protest what is said are high fees and restrictive rules for developers.Google said in a Monday blog post that next year’s version of the operating system — Android 12 — will “make it even easier for people to use other app stores on their devices,” although the company didn’t elaborate. The blog post also clarified that Google will tighten requirements that purchases within apps downloaded from Google’s store must use the company’s billing system. For more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.comSubscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news source.©2020 Bloomberg L.P.
