German-built Egyptian submarine launched with Nile water

The last in a series of four German-built submarines sold to Egypt was launched in the northern German city of Kiel on Tuesday with a bottle of water from the river Nile.Egyptian Vice Admiral Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said used the water to launch the fourth S44 submarine made by Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (tkMS) at the Kiel naval dockyards.After undergoing tests, the submarine will be handed over to the Egyptians in a couple of months.The first in the S44 class was transferred to Egypt in 2016, with the second following in 2017 and the third in April this year.The S44 measures 62 metres in length …
