Japan machinery orders fall 4.4% on month in Sept.

Japan’s core private-sector machinery orders dropped 4.4 percent in September from the previous month, government data showed Thursday.The orders, which exclude those for ships and from electricity utilities due to their volatility, totaled 719.3 billion yen ($6.8 billion), according to the Cabinet Office.Machinery orders are seen as a leading indicator of capital spending. The decrease in the reporting month followed a 0.2 percent rise in August.
