Lawmaker Sagasti is sworn in as Peru's president

Lawmaker Francisco Sagasti was on Tuesday sworn in as Peru’s president, becoming the country’s third head of state in just over a week.The 76-year-old, centre-right politician earlier said he would appoint a “plural” cabinet with “the widest possible spectrum,” which could include members of former president Martin Vizcarra’s government, local media reported.The South American country was plunged into political chaos on Monday last week when Vizcarra was impeached for corruption and replaced by interim president Manuel Merino, who then resigned following protests against Vizcarra’s ouster.
