Bach the only candidate in IOC presidential election

Incumbent Thomas Bach is the only candidate standing to be president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the election in Athens next year.The IOC said Tuesday that Bach would stand unopposed for election at the 137th IOC Session in March.If confirmed, the 66-year-old German Bach will officially start his second term after the 2020 Tokyo Games which have been delayed to July 23-August 8 due to the coronavirus pandemic. It will end in 2025.Bach, an Olympic fencing champion from 1976, was elected to a first eight-year presidential term in 2013 as successor to Belgian Jacques Rogge.
