Conte appeals for support hours ahead of no-confidence vote

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has urged parliament not to upset the government’s plans to fight the coronavirus as he faces a vote of no confidence in the lower house later on Monday. His government had taken “maximum care” over the interests of Italians during the health crisis, he said, adding that the country was in the midst of “dramatic moments” in the fight against the virus. His plan to help Italy recover was “much improved,” he said. If Conte survives the vote in the Chamber of Deputies on Monday, he would face another vote in the Senate, the smaller chamber.
