Dortmund's Witsel sidelined with Achilles tendon tear

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel faces months on the sidelines after tearing his Achilles tendon in the 3-1 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday. The Bundesliga club confirmed the “bitter” diagnosis on Sunday and said the “whole Dortmund family is crossing its fingers for a quick recovery.” Witsel, a 31-year-old Belgian international, suffered the injury without the involvement of an opposing player. In addition to missing out for his club, Witsel also faces a race against time to be fit for Euro 2020 delayed to this summer because of the coronavirus pandemic.
