Editorial: After 19 years, bring troops in Afghanistan home

Given President Donald Trump’s habit of making weighty decisions based on whims, the national security establishment’s pushback against his plan to bring home 2,000 of the 4,500 U.S. troops in Afghanistan and 500 of the 3,000 in Iraq by Jan. 15 is understandable. A speedy drawdown of troops in such unstable areas may seem as dumb and dangerous as the president’s recent rash talk of bombing Iran on his way out the door.
