FIFA opts for existing Club World Cup format in 2021

The 2021 Club World Cup will be based on the existing competition and involve seven teams rather than 24, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Friday following a council meeting. He had wanted a new 24-team event to take place in China in the middle of 2021 but the coronavirus led to the Euros and Copa America being postponed from this year until next year.
