Japan's Dec. core consumer prices fall 1.0% on year

Japan’s core consumer prices dropped 1.0 percent in December from a year earlier for the fifth straight month of decline, government data showed Friday. Nationwide core consumer prices, excluding volatile fresh food items, fell 0.9 percent in November. In 2020, the core consumer price index dipped 0.2 percent on average, marking the first decrease in four years, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
