Kamala Harris becomes first woman of colour to be US vice president

Kamala Harris was sworn in as vice president of the United States, becoming the first woman of colour to hold the office. She was administered the oath of office by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina on the Supreme Court, in a symbolic moment. Joe Biden will be sworn in shortly by Chief Justice John Roberts, formally ending the presidency of Donald Trump. Biden will be the 46th US president at a ceremony taking place on the West Front of the US Capitol, which was attacked by Trump loyalists two weeks ago.
