Karl Rove Cautions Trump Against Making Demands to Probe Political Opponents

Former White Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove cautioned it is unwise for any president to look as if he is demanding the Justice Department probe his political opponents.

“What if Hillary Clinton had won the election?” he said during Friday on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”

“Would we be excited about Hillary Clinton calling on her attorney general to investigate Donald Trump over the meeting at Trump Tower?”

Trump has leveled strong criticism at special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe and has questioned why Hillary Clinton’s campaign hasn’t been aggressively investigated by the Justice Department.

On Thursday, he again talked about the Mueller probe: “People are angry,” he said. “What’s happening is a disgrace. At some point, if it doesn’t straighten out properly — I want them to do their job — I will get involved, and I’ll get in there if I have to… Disgraceful.”

And he added: “We’ve got stories that are so big and the media doesn’t pick them up. If it was about a Republican or conservative, it would be front page of every newspaper. And we have them, and they just don’t want to write them. A dishonest group of people.”

Rove reacted to the president’s statements during the televised interview and reiterated Trump should shy away from demanding any probe of his opponents.

“This isn’t how we should do things in America,” he said.
