Mark Judge Refuses to Testify to Senate on Assault Allegations

The D.C.-based freelance writer who was named as the other man in the room during an alleged assault against Christine Blasey Ford by Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh some 36 years ago stated Tuesday he does not wish to testify on the matter.

Judge’s attorney, Barbara Van Gelder, emailed a letter to Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Sen.  Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., that was consistent with Judge’s earlier insistence that he has no recollection of any such encounter.

“The only reason I am involved,” Judge states in the letter, “is because Dr. Christine Blasey Ford remembers me as the other person in the room during the alleged assault.

“In fact, I have no memory of this alleged incident. Brett Kavanaugh and I were friends in high school but I do not recall the party described in Dr. Ford’s letter. More to the point, I never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford describes.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee is looking into Ford’s allegations. She claims Kavanaugh, then 17, groped her at a party and that Judge witnessed the assault.

Ford first revealed what she considers to be an attempted rape during a couples-therapy session with her husband in 2012.

Judge states in the letter to the Judiciary Committee: “I do not wish to speak publicly regarding the incidents described in Dr. Ford’s letter.”
