Michigan adds 5,498 cases, 20 deaths from COVID-19

DETROIT — Michigan on Friday added 5,498 new COVID-19 cases, and 20 deaths as the state continues to lead the nation in most infections by population for the last seven days. The latest figures bring the state’s total number of cases to 683,793 and deaths to 16,161 since the virus was first detected in March 2020, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.
