Prosecutor takes over N.J. police department after chief retires

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday said it would take control of the Englewood Police Department after the retirement of the city police chief. The recent retirement of Chief Lawrence Suffern and a prior retirement of a deputy chief left the 79-member police department with a void in its two top positions and came after months of tensions within the ranks.
