Rep. Jim Jordan agreed Wednesday that it’s “accurate” to say November’s race will be a tight one, but he does think Republicans can increase chances of keeping their majority if they keep the promises they made and fund the border wall.
“The central thing that the people elected Republicans to do is secure our border, build the border security wall,” the Ohio Republican told Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”
“So let’s get it done on the spending bill.”
Jordan also said Republicans can close a 14-point gap shown in a Washington Post-ABC News generic candidate poll https://www.washingtonpost.com/page/2010-2019/WashingtonPost/2018/09/04/National-Politics/Polling/release_529.xml?tid=a_inl_manual released Tuesday by keeping promises, including making tax cuts permanent, pushing for welfare reform and building the wall.
He also spoke out about the recent spate of extreme left, socialist candidates winning Democratic primaries, saying the trend “just shows where they are at.”
“They want to raise your taxes; they want to abolish ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement],” he said.
“Speaker [Newt] Gingrich said we should nationalize this election. Show the contrast and distinction between their hard-left agenda and what we are doing for the measure people and how we are completing what we were elected to do. That’s how we should frame this thing up over the next 62 days.”
