Rudy Giuliani Bashes Chicago's Rahm Emanuel, Backs Garry McCarthy

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is bashing Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the city’s “one-party Democratic rule for decades” for the gun violence that killed 11 people and wounded 70 others this past weekend.

Giuliani, now a member of President Donald Trump’s personal legal team in the Russia investigation, also called on Windy City voters to back former police chief Garry McCarthy, who is among 10 challengers trying to unseat Emanuel next year.

However, Giuliani called McCarthy “Jerry” in two of the four tweets he posted since the weekend.

McCarthy worked under the former mayor in New York during the 9/11 attacks.

“His legacy is more murders in his city than ever before,” Giuliani said in a Monday post. “It’s only because of Democrat brain-washing that he has even a chance of remaining.”

Here are other tweets supporting McCarthy:

Giuliani donated the maximum $5,600 to McCarthy’s campaign in January, The Chicago Tribune reports.

McCarthy and nine others are seeking to block Emanuel’s re-election next February — and many of them slammed the mayor for the weekend gun violence.

The shootings marked the worst violence in a single weekend in the city since 2016, “the year in which homicides hit records unseen for two decades,” the Tribune reports.

McCarthy’s attacks on Emanuel have been relentless, including a Monday tweet with video of him dancing at a local music festival last week.

But McCarthy is not embracing Giuliani’s support, Fox News reports.

He described himself as a “proud Democrat” who was “opposed to the misguided, divisive tone and policies of Donald Trump.”
