Chesa Boudin, the newly-elected district attorney of San Francisco, has said that public urination, prostitution, and other “quality-of-life crimes” will not be prosecuted on his watch.

The story: Responding to an ACLU questionnaire during his campaign last month, Boudin said: “We will not prosecute cases involving quality-of-life crimes. Crimes such as public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination, blocking a sidewalk, etc., should not and will not be prosecuted.”

“Many of these crimes are still being prosecuted, we have a long way to go to decriminalize poverty and homelessness,” he added.

“There can be no justice when we utilize prison and jail as the solution to all of our problems,” he said Saturday. “We must think differently.”

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) congratulated Boudin’s “historic victory!” in a Saturday tweet.

“Now is the moment to fundamentally transform our racist and broken criminal justice system by ending mass incarceration, the failed war on drugs and the criminalization of poverty.”

In 2018, San Francisco assigned six workers to the “Poop Patrol” to clean the streets of human excrement.

Last year alone, the city received 27,000 requests to clean up human waste and feces.
