The Democrats might have taken the Republicans 21-5, but both teams celebrated the return of Louisiana Republican Rep. Steve Scalise to the baseball field after a lone gunman shot him at a practice in 2017.

“The Congressional Baseball Game has been played for more than 100 years, and I truly believe it is more important now than ever before,” Scalise wrote in the game program.

“I’ve still got it,” Scalise’s account tweeted after he threw out the first pitch of the game. (RELATED: Cruz Favored Over Kimmel In Charity Basketball Game)

The congressional baseball game benefits several charities in the Washington, D.C. area including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, College To Congress, GALA, The Homeless Children’s Playtime Project, Hope And A Home, Miriam’s Kitchen, The National Baseball Hall Of Fame, Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, The First Tee, Washington Literacy Center and The Nationals Dream Foundation.

The game raised $1.5 million in 2017 for various charities in the greater D.C. area, according to the game program.
