Scholar succeeds Austrian labour minister who stumbled over doctorate

Economic scholar Martin Kocher will become Austria’s new labour minister, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced on Sunday after Kocher’s predecessor resigned over alleged plagiarism in her academic theses. Kocher, 47, has been leading the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna, one of Austria’s top economic think tanks. He is also a professor at Vienna University.
