Separatist Borras elected president of Catalan regional parliament

Lawmakers elected separatist Laura Borras as parliamentary president in the Spanish region of Catalonia on Friday. The 50-year-old politician of the regional party JuntsXCat received 64 of a total of 135 votes in the election in Barcelona, beating the socialist Eva Granados, who received 50. Separatist parties won more than 50 per cent of the votes for the first time in early elections to the Catalan parliament on February 14. The separatists won 74 of the 135 seats.
