Soccer: Former Japan playmaker Ono returns to Consadole Sapporo

Veteran former Japan playmaker Shinji Ono is returning to Consadole Sapporo in the J-League top flight, the club announced Friday. The 41-year-old attacking midfielder, who played for the Samurai Blue at three World Cups, has spent the past two seasons with Okinawa-based FC Ryukyu in the second division. Ono began his previous stint with then second-division Sapporo in 2014 and helped them earn promotion by winning the J2 championship two years later. He left to join Ryukyu in 2019.
