Spain's People's Party faces fresh corruption trial ahead of key vote

Corruption proceedings against Spain’s conservative People’s Party (PP) began on Monday, just six days before parliamentary elections in the crisis region of Catalonia. The main defendant, former PP treasurer Luis Barcenas, who is already serving a 29-year prison term, has promised to make further explosive revelations about the party’s irregular sources of funding.
