John Schneider was recently sentenced to jail for not paying spousal support, but he got off pretty easy.
What happened to Schneider behind bars? Was he locked up for a long time? Was he over in a tough prison? Yeah, none of that stuff happened at all. In fact, “The Dukes of Hazzard” star was sentenced to a few days but only ended up serving a few hours. I don’t know how that works. (RELATED: LEGENDARY ACTOR IS HEADED TO JAIL. THE REASON WHY IS INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING)
He checked in Tuesday morning and even posted a video as he drove there, encouraging fans to buy some of his gear.
According to law enforcement … he checked in at 10:29 AM, and was out at 3:46 PM. Sounds like celebrity justice, but fact is, most non-violent offenders in L.A. County jail get severely shortened sentences due to jail overcrowding.
He’s not in the clear yet, though. As we reported, Schneider still has to do 240 hours of community service, and complete a long list of financial obligations, or he’ll get an additional 5-day sentence.
I thought this was a joke when I first read the TMZ report. He was in jail for a grand total of five hours! That’s not even a jail sentence. That’s a timeout. That’s a break from the toughness of life to kick back with the boys behind bars.
What is the point of even sentencing somebody to jail if they’re going to be out in a few hours? Schneider took this so seriously that he was seriously trying to sling some merchandise before the five-hour timeout. Yeah, the justice system really showed him.
The man hasn’t paid spousal support, and apparently, there aren’t real punishments for that in California. This isn’t even really embarrassing for Schneider at this point. It’s just really embarrassing for the California judicial system. Five hours! I would have laughed in the judge’s face as I walked out of jail.
