US offers plenty of ski areas, and not just in the Rockies

Many winter sports enthusiasts dream about skiing in the Rocky Mountains. Vail, Aspen, Park City and Lake Tahoe aren’t the only places in the United States with great ski runs and off-piste terrain, however. In contrast to the Alps, where ski areas are measured in kilometres of piste, “skiable acres” are what counts in the US and Canada. At some resorts, the backcountry – unpatrolled areas with no marked trails – is greater in extent than groomed trails with a ski patrol.
